So one of the biggest things I miss since being in college is not having time to read recreationally. I just don’t set aside time like I do at home to sit down with a cup of tea and a good book. So one of my summer goals has bene to work on a reading list- but not just any reading list.
I’ve done the classics, loved them. Total nerd when Gatsby came out, my boyfriend and I dressed in full costume (photo on my Instagram). But I need more books I can discuss in casual conversation. So this is my list:
Water for Elephants- haven’t seen the movie so there were no spoilers! I read this at the beginning of the summer. It was totally different than I pictured, much grittier and barely gushy at all. I loved the setting, historical fiction has always been my fav. This book was especially interesting because I have visited the Ringling estate in Sarasota, so I was able to place a lot of context of the circus. Overall a compelling read and would definitely recommend.
And the Mountains Echoed- I couldn’t wait to start this one. I loved the The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, so I knew I was in for a treat. I am about two-thirds of the way into this one, but I am loving it. Unlike the author’s first two books, this one shifts from a variety of perspectives kind of like the film Crash. I’ll update when I am finished with the book.
Where’d You Go Bernadette- this one is kind of random. My mom read it this past year and said it was a great read. I kept seeing it on Pinterest lists and different blogs, so I’m excited to see what it’s all about. Update will follow as well.
